Hey friends!
As Klaus continues on his Norwegian adventure, today was his first day in a port - Åndalsnes - where he was able to get off and explore.
Åndalsnes is known as Norway’s “mountaineering capital”. It’s in a stunning location, you sail through Romsdalsfjord to reach the town and the dock for the ship. Sailing through the fjord is idyllic and the town itself is not large by any means, but it’s full of charm and is surrounded by the most amazing scenery.
Klaus got up early to make the most of his time in this magical area, and even caught a hint of the wonderful Northern Lights.

As the day started to dawn, the beautiful scenery opened up before him, and Klaus made the most of the great views from the balcony

After quite a while of sailing through such gorgeous scenery, the town came into view, and what a sweet town it is!

There are lots of things to do in this area, particularly if you’re a fan of rock climbing and hiking, but Klaus didn’t have time to do much of that, so he decided to firstly go on the cable cars.
The gondola transports you to Nesaksla Mountain which is 708 metres above sea level and enjoys a 360 degree view epic of majestic peaks and deep fjords. Once at the top, you can walk still further to enjoy the most amazing views before enjoying a gorgeous hot chocolate or coffee in the cafe.
Room with a view! 😄
After his visit to the top of the mountain on the cable cars, Klaus had a slightly more relaxing journey - a couple of hours on board the Golden Train!
According to the company’s website, “The Golden Train takes you on a magical journey through beautiful Romsdalen. Moving along the Rauma Railway, voted "Europe’s most scenic train journey" by Lonely Planet, this tourist train is not short of remarkable sights.” … and Klaus’s says they are absolutely correct!
Klaus soon settled in to his seat on board the train for the scenic journey which also has very interesting commentary (in English) by a Norwegian guide.

He learned how the Golden Train got its name: by helping to transport Norway’s gold reserves during the 2nd World War! When he got to the last destination, before turning back, there was a little demonstration area of this:

And Klaus even found time to make a little snowman ☃️

As well as visit a nice house

There were so many other fantastic things to see on the route, like this church
And the views of course!
There is so much to see, so Klaus definitely recommends visiting, if you’ve not already!
Join us next time for the next installment of Klaus’s adventure!
