Hey friends!
Welcome to Klaus’s final blog post from Norway 🇳🇴
Not his final one ever, you understand, as he has lots more things to share when he gets back on dry land 🐙
But as his Norwegian cruise draws to a close, he wants to share lots of photos he took in the quaint city of Stavanger, and the fjord close by.
Klaus was up early and enjoyed a stunning view of the moon on the ocean
A couple of hours later, he got ready for the day, ate a light breakfast, and then disembarked the ship which was moored very close to the town centre, so his little feet 🐾🐾 didn’t have to work quite as hard as they had in Tromsø!
The city has both an old town which is very quaint, and the more modern shopping area which has lots of independent outlets to satisfy most shoppers’ desires!
Klaus started his day on shore by exploring the old town, which is also known as Gamla Stavanger …

The old town features over 170 well preserved white wooden cottages that date back to the 18th and 19th Centuries. Like this one!

They were originally houses for merchants and sailors, they built their storage wharves along the seafront with their homes directly behind.

You can probably see the original cobbled streets which are quite narrow, it also has lots of flowers and galleries as well as….

… Chickens! Klaus thinks they are there as Easter decorations as he saw lots of Easter 🐣 themed things on his travels around the town.

Whilst you need to respect the privacy of residents when visiting, this well preserved, historic area acts as a living museum of the city’s maritime history.
After a nice wander around the old area, Klaus made his way to the modern centre which featured lots of colourful shops and artwork, lots of it with a Banksy vibe

He just had to stop and admire these kitties too!
There was even a matching post box!

And another pretty box with artwork right next to it

It’s not just all about funky postboxes though 📮, the most famous street in this area is called Fargegata and is a whole row of colourful shops!

It wasn’t very busy when Klaus was there as it was still quite early and not much was open, but he spotted some weird and wonderful goods in the windows, including traditional dress in this amazingly-well decorated shop

H U G E Moon Boots! 👢 Too big for his little feet! 🦶

And, of course…….

… another cute chick 🐥! 🤣
Klaus admired sights in the town a little more
Then he got on his eco-friendly transport for the short journey back to the port ⛵️

When there, he thought he’d get a selfie with the cruise ship in the background, before going to his next adventure!
He soon found it - the high speed RIB ride!
(RIB = rigid inflatable boat)

He boarded the RIB and was soon zooming along the fjord, passing coves and waterfalls along the way

There is a very famous rock in this area called Pulpit Rock, it attracts around 500,000 visitors per year! Around 300,000 hike to the top of it, and the others see it from below on various sea-going vessels 🚢 some of which are a bit more sedate than the high speed RIBs!
Here it is from below

It might look 👀 familiar because Tom Cruise filmed the famous rock climbing scene there for Mission Impossible 6!
There were lots of waterfalls to see, this one being one of the most spectacular

And so much amazing scenery - far too much to share, so Klaus highly recommends a visit if you’ve not already!
Once back at the dock, Klaus took a pic of the ship from the RIB

Then it was back to his cabin for a well deserved snooze 💤
And with that, it’s time for Klaus to say goodbye to Norway 🇳🇴
In case you missed them, his previous blogs showed his first days at sea, followed by his visits to:
Åndalsnes
Alta
Tromsø
He hopes you’ve enjoyed seeing his photos and hopes you’ll join him again soon for whatever pops into his head 😹😹
