How to Choose the Perfect Cat Teaser
The Cat World Guide to Choosing a Trixie Cat Teaser
Some cats go wild for fluttering feathers. Others can't resist colourful ribbons, fluffy pom poms or the tempting scent of catnip. And then there are those determined little hunters who want to chase absolutely everything!
At Cat World, we know that no two cats are quite alike. Having spent years helping customers choose toys in our Oswestry shop, we've learned that the best cat teaser isn't necessarily the biggest or most expensive. It's the one that suits your cat's personality and favourite way to play.
So we've put together this handy guide to help you choose from our Trixie cat teaser collection. ๐บ

๐ฟ Catnip or Valerian โ Does it Make a Difference?
It certainly can!
Catnip and valerian are natural plant-based scents that many cats find stimulating. Some cats become playful and excited, while others may roll around, rub against the toy or simply enjoy investigating.
But here's something worth knowing: not every cat responds to these scents, and that's perfectly normal.
A cat who ignores catnip might enjoy valerian, while another might be far more interested in a fluttering ribbon or feather.
Valerian also has a rather distinctive earthy smell that human noses don't always appreciate! Fortunately, cats experience scent very differently from us.
If you're unsure whether your cat enjoys these natural attractants, our Cat Questions & FAQs explains more about catnip, silvervine and valerian.
๐ฃ Fixed-Length or Telescopic โ Which Should You Choose?
Both styles have their advantages.
๐พ Fixed-length teasers are excellent for everyday interactive play. They're easy to handle and offer plenty of variety, from soft pom poms and fluttering ribbons to dangling shapes and catnip-filled characters.
๐พ Telescopic teasers offer greater reach and flexibility. Their extendable rods allow you to vary the distance and movement of the toy, making them especially useful for sweeping chases and energetic games.
Neither style is automatically better. A cat who adores ribbons may prefer a simple plush teaser to a much longer fishing rod!
โค๏ธ A Few Cat World Playtime Tips
-
๐ Let your cat be the hunter. Move the toy away from your cat, pause occasionally and allow time for stalking before the big pounce.
-
๐ชถ Vary the movement. Try slow crawling movements, quick little darts and gentle fluttering to discover what captures your cat's interest.
-
๐พ Let them catch their prize! An occasional successful capture makes the game more satisfying.
-
๐ Follow your cat's lead. Some cats love enthusiastic chasing, while others prefer a gentle game from their favourite comfy spot.
-
๐ฃ Put fishing rods away after play. Teasers with cords, feathers and dangling attachments are best enjoyed during interactive play with you.
